When we talk about mental health, we spend a lot of time focusing on the “1 in 4” that will suffer from a mental health condition at some point in their lives, such as depression or anxiety. What we don’t often talk about is the fact that “mental health” means, quite literally, the health of our mental state. And just like our physical health, we need to stay constantly aware of our mental health and ensure that we keep it healthy.
Changing the conversation around mental health
I started doing some work for a new mental health startup recently, who aim to change the perception and conversation around mental health. While it’s still incredibly important to highlight the impact that mental health issues will have on the 1 in 4, it’s also important to target the other 3 in 4 too, so that they can help the ones around them who will suffer, but also to help prevent themselves from any future suffering.
I recently wrote a post for Sanctus on how mental health affects all of us and not just the 1 in 4. You can read it here.
And, as always, you can get in contact with me here.
